The single best day of riding within reach of Phuket happens the moment you cross Sarasin Bridge: traffic thins, limestone karsts rise out of the plains, and the roads open into the kind of sweepers the island itself cannot offer.
This is a 180–250 km day. Here is the route that earns every kilometre.
The route
Leave early — 06:00 if you want Samet Nangshe at its best. North on Thepkrasattri Road, over Sarasin Bridge (photo stop mandatory), then 20 minutes to the Samet Nangshe turnoff. The viewpoint over Phang Nga Bay's drowned karst towers is Thailand's most cinematic sunrise; ฿90 entry with the shuttle, or ride the brutal concrete track up if your bike and nerve allow.
Continue to Phang Nga Town for old-street coffee and khanom jeen noodles, then choose: the Samet Nangshe loop home (260 km total with detours) or push to Takua Pa's Sino-Portuguese old town for the long version.
Bike choice and fuel
This is what the CB500X, Versys 650 and the big GS-class adventure fleet exist for — but a Forza or ADV 350 handles the day with comfort to spare. On a 125cc scooter the trip is possible and long; the highway section demands steady 80 km/h cruising. Fuel: fill in Thalang before the bridge; stations exist throughout Phang Nga but thin out on the bay backroads.
Worth knowing
Cross-province riding is allowed on all our bikes at no extra cost — just mention the route when booking so paperwork matches (see the big-bike license guide for what applies over 400cc). Rain shadows differ: Phang Nga catches more monsoon than Phuket, so check radar beyond September. And leave buffer for the return bridge crossing — sunset from Sarasin with the fishing boats below is a legitimate final stop.
FAQ
How far is Samet Nangshe from Phuket?
About 75–90 minutes from northern Phuket to the viewpoint parking; add 30–45 minutes from Patong or Kata. As a sunrise mission, leave the beaches by 04:30–05:00.
Can I do Phang Nga on a rental scooter?
Yes on 150cc+, comfortably on 300cc+. The day is 180–260 km with highway stretches — a big bike or maxi-scooter transforms it from endurance to pleasure.
Is the ride allowed under the rental agreement?
With us, yes — day trips to Phang Nga, Krabi and Khao Sok are covered at no extra charge. Tell us the plan when booking so the insurance paperwork matches the route.
