The Best Scooters for Two People (and Their Luggage)

Half of Phuket rides two-up, and most of it on bikes chosen for the solo price rather than the shared reality. Two adults change everything: braking distances, hill performance, seat comfort after 20 minutes, and where the beach bag goes.

Here is what actually works for couples, ranked by the fleet that hears the feedback.

Best overall: Honda PCX 160 — the long seat and smooth eSP+ engine make it the island's default couple bike. Best for taller pairs: ADV 350 or Forza 350 — genuine room, highway stability, underseat space for two helmets and a bag. Budget pick: Click 160 — the smallest bike we recommend two-up if hills are on the plan. Not recommended for two: 110cc anything beyond flat beach errands — the Kata and Patong hills expose the limits fast (Big Buddha guide explains the brake-fade issue).

Luggage and comfort details

Two helmets are included with every rental — ask for the passenger's size, not just the rider's. Top box: free on weekly+ rentals, transforms the beach-day logistics and gives the passenger a backrest. Passenger rules that save relationships: feet on the pegs always, lean with the rider not against, mount after the rider says go. Twenty-minute comfort is the real test — the PCX and maxi class pass it; sporty seats do not.

The maths for couples

One PCX at ฿400/day carries two people for less than two Grab trips (the comparison). Fuel two-up rises barely — expect 40–45 km/L instead of 47. The upgrade from a Click to a PCX costs about ฿100/day and buys hill confidence, brake margin and a passenger who still likes you at dinner: the best ฿100 in Phuket tourism.
